Australia A batsman Nic Maddinson has been withdrawn from the team’s ongoing tour of India after sustaining a tendon injury to his right index finger. Maddinson picked up the injury while attempting a catch during India A’s second innings in the first unofficial Test in Chennai, and will return back to Australia on Monday night. A Cricket Australia release, however, said that “no player will be called into the Australia A four-day squad to replace Maddinson.””Nic’s finger will need to be immobilised in a splint for the next few weeks so unfortunately he will not be able to participate in the remaining four-day match of this tour,” David Beakley, Australia A’s physio, said. “He will return earlier to Australia so that he can continue his rehabilitation in Sydney and prepare for his upcoming cricket commitments with New South Wales.”Batting at No.5 in the first unofficial Test, Maddinson fell for a first-ball duck in the first innings, before scoring an unbeaten 37 in the second. Australia A’s second match of the tour will also be held in Chennai, and begins on Wednesday.
